Once you have registered a domain, you own it for one full year, aka one billing cycle. The exception to this is the .AS ccTLD, which is automatically registered for two years.
All domains are renewed automatically each year as long as you have valid credit card details in your iwantmyname account and have not intentionally cancelled the renewal.
